1. Introduction — who operates what
This Privacy Policy explains how the StrokeInk brand collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit our website (strokeink.com), use the StrokeInk hardware device, the StrokeInk mobile application, or any related services (collectively, the "Service"). The StrokeInk brand is operated by two related companies under common ownership, each acting as the data controller for the parts of the Service it operates:
- Montana Prosperity LLC ("Montana"), a New Mexico limited liability company, is the controller for the StrokeInk apps and app service: user accounts, round and score data, Pro subscriptions, AI Coach, notifications, and device syncing.
- VD Solutions LLC ("VD Solutions"), a Texas limited liability company based in Austin, Texas, is the controller for the website, online store, and hardware: device orders, checkout, shipping, and order-related communications.
In this policy, "StrokeInk", "we", "us", and "our" refer to whichever entity is the controller for the activity described. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: information you provide, information collected automatically, and information from connected devices. Each row notes the responsible entity.

c) From the StrokeInk device
When your device syncs to the app over StrokeInk Sync, Montana receives: scores per hole, putts per hole, round duration, course identifier, tee played, firmware version, battery level, and device serial number.
3. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Process your Pro subscription (Montana) and hardware purchases (VD Solutions)
- Sync rounds between your StrokeInk device and the app (Montana)
- Calculate handicap, statistics, and personalized insights (Montana)
- Provide AI Coach features you request (Montana)
- Enable social features you opt into — posts, friends, shared rounds (Montana)
- Send important notices about your account, the Service, or order updates
- Respond to your support requests
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
We will only send marketing emails if you opt in. You can opt out at any time.
4. AI features & automated processing
The StrokeInk app (Montana) includes an AI Coach feature that uses third-party artificial intelligence to generate golf insights, round debriefs, and conversational responses.
When you use AI Coach, the round data and messages you submit — such as your scores, putts, and the questions you ask — are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), which processes them to generate a response. We do not send your name, email, payment information, or precise location to the AI provider as part of this feature. Anthropic acts as our processor and does not use your submitted content to train its models.
AI Coach output is generated automatically and is provided for general informational and entertainment purposes only. It may be inaccurate or incomplete, and it is not professional coaching, medical, fitness, or financial advice. You are responsible for how you use it. AI Coach does not make any decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you.
If you prefer not to use AI features, simply do not use the AI Coach; the rest of the Service works without it.
6. Cookies & tracking
The StrokeInk website (VD Solutions) uses a minimal set of cookies to remember your preferences and analyze general traffic patterns. We currently do not use third-party advertising cookies.
The StrokeInk app (Montana) uses standard mobile analytics and crash-reporting to measure performance. You can disable analytics through your device settings.
Where required by law, we will request your consent before placing non-essential cookies.
7. Data storage & security
Your data is stored on secure cloud servers operated by our hosting providers, primarily located in the United States. We use industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls, and regular backups.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the information we hold about you
- Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion: Delete your account and associated data. You can delete your account and its data directly in the StrokeInk app, from the account menu ("Delete account"). This action is permanent.
- Portability: Export your round data in a machine-readable format (Pro users can export rounds and statistics to CSV and PDF from within the app)
- Objection: Object to certain uses of your information
- Withdraw consent: Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time
- Lodge a complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected] with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We will respond within a reasonable time frame consistent with applicable law.
California residents have specific rights under the CCPA. EU and UK residents have rights under the GDPR. We will honor those rights as required by law.
9. Data retention
We keep your information as long as your account is active and as long as needed to provide the Service. After you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period unless we are required by law to retain it (for example, order and transaction records held by VD Solutions for tax purposes).
Anonymized or aggregated data that no longer identifies you may be retained indefinitely.
10. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
11. International users
StrokeInk is based in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for cross-border data transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service. The updated policy takes effect when posted.
